Day-by-Day Itinerary Day / Highlight Program Details DAY 1 Islamabad to Kalam About 8 hours on the road Overnight: Kalam Morning Pickup from your Islamabad address and departure towards Swat Valley on the motorway. We break for breakfast at TKR and let everyone stretch before the mountain section begins. En route Short stay at Shamozai Bridge, where the Swat River widens out between green banks — the first proper photo stop of the trip. We then continue up the valley through Bahrain, a riverside town known for its wooden handicrafts and shawls. Evening Arrival at Kalam, set where the Ushu and Utror rivers meet to form the Swat River. Check in, walk down for riverside photography and chai, and settle in for the night. Kalam sits at around 2,000 m, so evenings stay cool even in mid-summer. Keep a light jacket where you can reach it. DAY 2 Ushu Forest & Mahodand Lake 4x4 jeep day Overnight: Kalam Morning Breakfast at the property, then a short drive upstream to Ushu Forest — a dense stand of deodar and pine running along the river above Kalam. Afternoon Time for slow nature walks, photography and a relaxed picnic beneath the canopy. From here the 4x4 jeeps continue up the rough Ushu valley track towards Mahodand Lake, an alpine lake ringed by meadows and snow peaks at roughly 2,800 m. Boating and horse rides are available at the lakeside for anyone who wants them. Evening Drive back down to Kalam for your overnight stay, with time to browse the bazaar before dinner. Mahodand is weather dependent. The jeep track is usually open from late spring through autumn and closed by snow in winter. DAY 3 Kalam to Malam Jabba About 5 hours on the road Overnight: Malam Jabba Morning Scenic breakfast at the property, then check out and drive back down through Bahrain and Mingora before climbing the road up to Malam Jabba. Afternoon Explore the resort and its activities — the chairlift, the zipline and the walking trails around the slopes — and enjoy the cool air at the top. Evening Check in at Malam Jabba and stay the night up on the mountain. Malam Jabba is noticeably colder than Kalam. Pack your warm layers near the top of your bag rather than at the bottom. DAY 4 Swat Heritage & Departure About 7 hours on the road Ends in Islamabad Morning Breakfast at the property, then check out and descend towards Swat city. Afternoon Explore Islampur Bazaar, the weaving village known for its handmade woollen shawls and blankets; the Swat Museum, with its collection of Gandhara-era sculpture; and the White Palace at Marghazar, the white marble summer residence built by the Wali of Swat. Evening Travel back to Islamabad. End of services. Islampur is the best value stop of the trip for shawls and blankets — you are buying at the village that weaves them.
